Q: Coping with symptoms of gout

I have been diagnosed with gout, however I have never had the swelling of a toe or anything like other gout sufferers. I woke up the one morning with pain in my back which was so painful that I battled to sleep. From there the pain progressed to the rest of my body - neck, arms, wrists, hands, fingers, hips, thighs, legs and feet. My feet are so painful especially if one presses in on the instep. In the mornings I battle to get going until the tendons (I would assume) manage to stretch and then I am fine. If I sit for some time, when I get up, the same thing. In the last couple of days I have found that on my left foot, about an inch below my ankle there is now a protruding swelling that has started, however, it is not painful, just strange and of concern.
Are these in fact symptoms of gout or do I need to take this further?
I have been taking my medication regularly, however, the pain is still just as bad, if not worse.

Please help; I have had this pain for about 4 months now!

Coping with gout symptoms

It is possible that the symptoms you reported might be related to gout. It cannot be determined why you are experiencing the symptoms while being on recommended therapy.

You might want to visit your doctor to adjust the therapy or to have other medications if the ones you take seem to be ineffective. You might also consult with your physician to see if any foods you consume are not recommended while being treated for gout.

gout
black cherry concentrate taken daily helps my gout extremly well, as well as several of my friends that have gout.....if I do have a symptom it is very brief & only after I forget to take my pill.....it is sold in pill form & liquid. I take the pill...

The symptoms you mentioned do not exactly to be gout, I have gout and tendinitis so I know exactly where you're coming from.

Luckily I've managed to control my gout through healthy diet and moderation in what I eat.

I personally do not take the medications that were prescribed by my doctor, there was meds to reduce pain (indomethacin) which I take and keep around only for emergencies which I haven't had in a long time. There were meds to treat gout but caused a bunch of side effects that you need other meds to cover. I chose NOT to do that, too annoying and so easily taken care of by purely watching what you eat.

If you do indeed have Gout, as an easy route, I would recommend just becoming a vegetarian, watching your mushroom, asparagus, and bean intakes in light light moderation. Drink a bunch of water and take a little bit of baking soda with water everyday (if you do decide to take baking soda, cut your salt intake as baking soda is essentially sodium). Please do more research on what I just mentioned but you should be ok and if all gout symptoms start to be better, you can ease back into white meats like chicken breast and maybe a little pork and white fish in MODERATION. I am sure you will not touch red meat and seafood, and intestinal food for the rest of your life again if you don't want the pain to return. This all may sound hard in the beginning but I assure you will get used to it, you have to, or you will suffer the pain, and thats NOT fun...us gout sufferers...we all know what its like.
