For about a week I have had the sensation of something being stuck in my throat. I've stuck my fingers down my throat and can fell my epiglottis but past that I can feel some lumps and bumps. I don't know if this is normal as I've never stuck my fingers down my throat that far but now I am worried. Are these lumps/bumps just normal ridges etc in the throat or should I get them checked out?

Hi,

Welcome to the ehealthforum and I am really glad to help you out. Your concern is regarding the lumps in the throat. First off, the feeling of something stuck in the throat is called globus hystericus. Globus hystericus is a subjective sensation where people feel a lump in the throat. At times, it is associated with difficulties swallowing. They are probably related to psychological problems and the other most common cause is gastro esophageal reflux disease - GERD.

The lumps which you are feeling with your fingers do not seem normal. These lumps can be due to swollen lymph nodes when there is an infection present. In the presence of a throat infection, the nodes often enlarge as they fight off the germs that are causing the pain. It can also be benign growths or swollen tonsils. My sincere advice would be to consult an ENT specialist and get an examination done.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
