Q: Coping with dizziness
asked by: DoctorQuestion on January 16th, 2009
Will this go away? if so, when? What is causing it? It is a very scary feeling and I am generally a very healthy person. I read a couple of online message boards where people have felt dizzy for years and that is scaring me.

Ear, Nose and Throat Disorders Answer A5412

Current medical status: I have a constant feeling of dizziness. I don't feel like I am going to fall down - nor have I. It is more than I feel groggy and out of it. Almost like I am on some strong cold medicine or hung over. My short term memory seems poor and I feel a litle disoriented. For example, I parked my car in a parking garage and if it wasn't for the colleague with me I probably would not have been able to remember where I parked. I have felt this way for several weeks now. It all started when I was suffering from bronchitis. I took an antibiotic for the bronchitis (unfortuantely I don't remember the name of it). The bronchitis has cleared but this grogginess/dizziness has not. The feeling peeked about 10 days ago now. I have since had a few afternoons where I seem to feel a little better. I keep hoping the next day this feeling will be completely gone, but then it is not. Can you help?

The dizziness itself is not enough to give a suggestion about a diagnosis. You might want to visit your doctor again and have basic laboratory tests to see if the infection still exists. If the tests are positive for an infection, then the prescribed antibiotic might have not been strong enough to eliminate all bacteria, but have only decreased the symptoms instead. If no infection is present, then a few days of complete resting with taking a lot of fluid might improve your condition.
