Coping with BP anger Posted: 05-13-08 15:56pm
I do know for me, I have been known to
have some really bad rage cycles. What I
try and do is distance myself from that
particular trigger as far as I can. Mind
distraction or just get in the car and go
to the mall or store. Nevertheless, get
outta there and give myself eoungh time to
cool down.
I have screamed at neighbors, rude to
cashiers etc.....Nothing like the person I
really am.
How do you handle your "rant cycle's"?
What helps you distract from the cause?
Love some feedback!

I wish I knew. I was diagnosed with BP but
have never really accepted that I have it
nor have I accepted medications for it. I
only have valium for my panic attacks. I
generally don't lash out at strangers but
my fiance tends to catch it hard. The
thing is I just can't walk away, it is
like this now or never thing, that moment
is the moment the issue has to be dealt
with. I will yell and say very hurtful
things only to later wonder why I was so
angry in the first place. When I'm angry,
he will tell me to go take a valium and
that really gets me defensive. I go over
the simplest bits of conversations had for
days and days after wondering and guessing
about what the other person thought of me
and how what I said could be mis
construed. I can identify when I'm being
irrational sometimes but even that doesn't
make the thoughts go away.

Peanuts, you should consider how your
moods effect others. Your fiance deserves
the best of you. Consider medication. It
will not fix all the mood swings. It may
make them less severe. If you add some
therapy and a mode of relaxation to the
equation you may find your moods even out
a bit and now you will have new coping
skills to help you further. Bipolar
disorder is difficult under the best
circumstances. It can be devastating when
left untreated. I hope you will consider
treatment. You deserve to feel more
control over your emotions. You deserve to
have a more stable and balanced life. All
the best.

I want to. I have even excepted a
prescription for lithium and gotten it
filled. I just couldn't bring myself to
take it. There are so many medications
that we later find out cause cancer or, in
the case of my father with seroquel,
destroy your liver. I guess I need to be
greatful for my valium for now anyway
since I just lost my medicaid due to
privateization. I am just so scared of
those medicines that alter the chemical
balances in your brain. What medications
have others had good luck with?

I also find the rage part of bipolar
disorder to be most frustrating. Sometimes
just a person sitting too close to me on a
bus would be enough to set me off into a
fit. Later on it doesn't make sense at
all...so so frustrating. Anyone else have
attacks like this? I have started taking
lamictal- it seems to help but still at
times stimulation of any degree just makes
me crazy.
