Q: Coping with birth control pill side effects
asked by: DoctorQuestion on October 19th, 2009
I have been on the Birth control shot for 5 1/2 months and about to get my second shot. since my 2nd shot in aug. i have had continued bleeding everyday. i never really get a period, but its always heavier than spotting, and like i said, its been pretty much every day since my last shot. i also have abdominal pain that is slight. i also have other side effects such as weight gain and moodiness. is there a way to stop the bleeding and other side effects? and is there something that is easy that would be as affective as the shot with less side effects?

Birth Control Answer A7572
All the symptoms you reported (continuous bleeding everyday heavier than spotting, slight abdominal pain, weight gain and moodiness) might be side effects from taking the birth control pill. The problem with the birth control products that contain hormones is that no one can tell how exactly the body would react. Sometimes prolonged bleeding might happen like in your case. Sudden unexpected heavy bleeding might occur, too. Women miss their periods on occasion when they are supposed to have them. There are many variations that are influenced both by the specific birth control product and
the responses from the body which are different in every woman.

You might want to visit a gynecologist and consult which birth control product available in your country (not provided) might be best for you. A physical examination might be needed to detect or exclude any pathological conditions.
