Q: Contractions with extrauterine pregnancy

There is a slight possibility that I am dealing with an extrauterine pregnancy. If so, I'm approximately 38 weeks pregnant. What would contractions feel like if the baby developed outside of the uterus? By what I've read, I'd still have them, right?

You wouldn't have contractions if there was a child outside your uterus. Contractions are cause by the uterus to expel the pregnancy. No uterine pregnancy = no uterine contractions.

If you are 38 weeks pregnant with an extrauterine pregnancy, I suggest you get your tail to the doctor pronto because the only way that baby is coming out of you is by c-section and a very intensive one at that. There is no way to know if that baby is wrapped in your intestines (probable!) and all your organs can be involved. If the placenta has attached itself to one of your major organs you can bleed to death very, very quickly.

GET TO THE DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY!

I've been to the doc, and they did a pelvic US. They didn't say they saw anything unusual. Would they have to be looking specifically for an extrauterine pregnancy in order to see it? It might be something else entirely...but the symptoms are SOOO similar (yes, I've been pregnant twice before and had two successful vaginal deliveries.) How would I know for sure that what I'm feeling is actually pregnancy? The pelvic US showed an empty uterus. So if I am...it's definitely extrauterine. Only reason I thought this might be the case for me (though I've heard they're rare), is due to gaining 12 lbs in less than 2 months and top of my belly down to pubic bone has gone from 34cm to 38 cm in the past 4 weeks. Only time my belly has ever done that is when it was pregnant....
