Q: Contracting STDs
asked by: DoctorQuestion on January 12th, 2009
An hour ago I had a casual encounter with a guy that I see occasionally for... well... a "booty call". We always use protection for penetration, but I don't typically worry about it when giving him head. Anyway, I was giving him head and he unexpectedly came down my throat so I went ahead and swallowed it. About 10 minutes ago while sitting at my computer, I was clearing my throat and coughed up some chunky white stuff. It was a little off-white, (not liquidy or gooey at all, it was solid and a little crumbly) and smelled HORRIBLE (almost made me throw up)! The smell is still on my fingers from examining it in my hand, and I'm absolutely disgusted (and a little concerned), but I don't want to tell him and freak him out or make him insecure if there's nothing wrong.

Is this ever normal? Could this be attributed to a sexually transmitted infection? Should I get a throat culture soon and tell him to get tested (if so, when)? Should I just wait to see if I get any symptoms?

Thanks!

We can’t be sure if you got any sexually transmitted infection so soon (1 hour) after having oral sex. You can wait for several days. If you get a sore throat and swollen lymph nodes on the neck, several days after oral sex, you could have been infected. Then you could request a throat culture, if necessary.

Coughing “horribly odorous, white, chunky stuff immediately after swallowing ejaculate” is not a sign that you got infected. It is only a sign that you swallowed something that you shouldn’t have.
