Hi I hope you can help me. I contracted chlamydia about 6 years ago and was treated successfully for it. After being treated for the STI I started experiencing pain during intercourse. I went to see a specialist a few years ago and after having various investigations I was discharged and told the problems would just go away. Since then I am still suffering from the pain during intercourse and I am now bleeding after intercourse aswell, but I am also getting lower abdominal pains even when I havent had sex. I have been to see my GP who has tested me for STI and has taken a cervical swab both have come back negative and she told me i have mild cervical erosion but that would not explain the pain I am experiencing. I am now waiting to see a gynaecologist but I feel im not being taken seriously as I have requested to have a cervical smear but they wont do one as I am only 23 and live in the UK. I am really worried that they are missing something?

Hi,

Welcome to the forum. The symptoms are suggesive of post coital bleeding. Commonest causes for post coital bleeding( bleeding after sex) include pathology like dysplasia, sexually transmitted infections (chlamydia or gonorrhea), endometriosis or polyps. The abdominal pain can be due to any of them.

To confirm the diagnosis, you need to get a repeat PAP Smear done from a gynecologist. You also need to get a swab sample done for sexually transmitted infections.

I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
