What contraceptive pill would be best for depression/anxiety?

I was on Logynon ed (uk pill) which had a high progestin potency and was triphasic. I believe that this pill made me depressed (only felt 'okay' on placebo week), and came off it. I get anxious around ovulation and before my period.

I've read that going for a triphasic, low progestin and maybe even a higher oestrogen to progesterone ratio would be better. Are they correct?

Hi,
Thanks for joining me on ehealthforum.

High progesterone containing pills are known to cause depression, and in your case it is evidenced by your history of feeling better while on the placebo pills.

Consult your gynecology doctor about it. She will prescribe you low progestin activity pills or a combined pill that has low progesterone.

If due to your medical condition the dose of progestin cannot be reduced, then alternative drug treatment to combat depression might be needed.

Discuss these points with your healthcare provider or with or gynecology doctor and proceed with what they suggest.

Take care. Bye for now.
