Q: Contagion of the herpes simplex virus

my boyfriend whos in the navy has had genital herpes for about two years now. I just started dating him 2 months ago and he wants to take it to the next step but im scared because i dont have herpes. he told me that he only get outbreaks in may so the only time i could become affected is in may when he have his outbreaks. is that true i can only get it when he has an outbreak?

Genital herpes is an infective disease caused by Herpes Simplex Virus. The infection is manifested with outbreaks that include vesicles or little sores. When the person does not have the symptoms, the virus is still in the body and can be easily transmitted even if there are no visible vesicles or sores.
