General Q and A Answer A5002
Current medical status: diarrhea pain during early pregnancy
Current medical treatment: none

It is not uncommon for women in earlier weeks of pregnancy to have digestive symptoms. In various women constipation appears, and in others diarrhea is dominant.

However, diarrhea should not be considered as normal in pregnant women before excluding other causes for diarrhea. Certain of them are infective: salmonella typhi, gardia lamblia, alimentary intoxication. In certain women the pregnancy only triggers the pre-existing conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease.

Stool culture, sigmoidoscopy and other diagnostic procedures might be required to determine the real cause.
