I had read on some of the other questions that several people were having problems with gas pains, unknown pains and constipation even years after the surgery. My replacement surgeon (fired the original one for malpractice & negligence) wants all of his patients on this bowel regimen. I have tried it and it does work, it also helps control the foul smelling gas, he says that it keeps food from being backed up therefore, does not ferment and smell bad. Here it is:

Do this every 3-4 weeks:
1. drink 2 oz. mineral oil twice daily for two days, then
2. Use a Dulcolax suppository twice daily for two days OR take 2 Dulcolax tablets twice daily for two days, then
3. Drink one bottle of magnesium citrate daily for two days. (If you have trouble keeping this down then reduce to 1/2 bottle each day)

This works really well for me and you should check with your gb doc prior to taking it. My gb doc swears by it. I am 5 yrs out and he still has me do it. He says it also keeps from stretching out the bowels and consequently leaving food in there longer for digestion and absorbtion, thus gaining weight. And none of us want that!!!

Thank you! This is exactly what I have been looking for. I am going to try it and hope that it works. I am 2 1/2 years out from Gastric Bypass and the constipation is horrible. I have gained a few pounds and am thinking that is why seeing as I haven't changed anything.

constipation after gastric bypass
Thank you so much for sharing. I am 8yrs post bypass. The foul-smelling gas has haunted me so terribly. I've kept off all 200lbs minus 30. I've had multiple bowel obstructions and even a bowel resection. No one has been able to give me any good advice. I will definitely try this and let you know of my results. I have just gotten out of the hospital with my fourth obstruction. At this point, I'm willing to try anyting to feel good.

CONSTIPATION AFTER GASTRIC BYPASS
I regularly use the generric form of ducalax as prescribed by my dr. this is much cheaper. i take ( 2 ) gel tablets twice a week at bed time and have never had any bowel problems. i am almost 6 years post bypass surgery. if slightly bloated i take ( 1 ) additional gel tablet another day of week. i skip at least one day between doses. no problems so far...

my daughter is 3 weeks post-op & called me crying that she's constipated. She said it's right there mom. I told her drink clear liquuids, go for a long walk, don't strain or push. I'm thinking to tell her to use a suppository, Glycerin or Duclolax?
