Q: Constantly nauseous week 16

Every day I get up and wonder -can I keep doing this. I have been to the hospital so many times I can't count, tried every medicine, can't sleep, can't do anything including work. I thought this would get better by week 16 amost week 17? Will I live with this forever? It seems like there will never be an end to this and I am wondering if I am normal? Basically I have stopped my normal life completely because I always feel so sick I can't do anything. It is like I have to eat every hour or i feel sick even when I am not hungry AT ALL, and the nauseousness just comes and goes all day every day and night. I start to worry now that after I have the baby it won't go away. Can that ever occur? Because I just don't think I can live like this forever. Any help anyone could provide would really be appreciated.

not much help
I don't know how much help I can be. I'm only 13 weeks along and still nauseated enough to be unable to go about my regular routine. I can't touch raw cheese or meat without getting horribly ill. I do know this did not happen with my prior pregnancies. The morning sickness disappeared like magic at the start of the 2nd trimester, or so. I've tried all the advice from doctors, mothers, etc. to help with the nausea, but nothing has worked. The only things I have found to help at all are root beer and (no joke here) greasy potato dishes (potato salad, fried anything with potato in it).

Try experimenting with certain foods and see if anything helps. Especially try to eat food you are craving - there is often a reason for the craving. Make sure to eat every couple of hours - smaller snacks. Don't get too much sugary foods. See if napping helps - my baby seems to let me know what it wants by kicking up the old morning sickness. I get the worst when I'm tired, haven't eaten VERY recently, stressed, been around chemicals, sometimes even when I'm a bit sweaty. Also check for smells in your home. Perfumy smells can irritate you even if you like them. Hidden mildew can also cause problems.

I've never known nausea to last beyond the pregnancy, but I've heard on rare occasion of it lasting throughout the pregnancy. Hopefully, you just have a demanding baby who knows what it wants and is determined to get it, even at the cost of your comfort. Stick in there... it sounds like I'm going to be with you the whole way!

If it helps to IDENTIFY, I am on my third (and final) pregnancy and have had constant nausea with all three, the entire pregnancy. With my first two, it went away the minute I delivered but other than that, NOTHING helped and as long as I was maintaining a healthy weight, my doctors haven't been overly concerned. "myenzoorka" tips are great but trust me, I have done them ALL and then some and have come to realize this is simply the way I do pregnancy. Good luck. I do hope it lightens up for you.

I was advised the more nausea the healthier the pregnancy which is no comfort to you at all I know. I was sick or felt sick 24/7 with my first pregnancy even during labour. It did stop the moment I gave birth, it is a very strange feeling to feel so ill and for it to completely disappear so abruptly, which is why you move on and have more children, it's like you forget, then I fell pregnant with my second child. Its back! I believe some women are lucky and don't have any sickness and others like you and I will always have these symptoms. My advice is sleep as much as you can and eat ice lollys regular to keep the nausea at bay. Don't worry its only until baby arrives. Good Luck!
