Q: Constant sickness
asked by: DoctorQuestion on March 9th, 2009
help my son
My son is 2 1/2 yrs old and is constantly sick. He was diagnosed with epilepsy and developmental delay over a year ago. My problem is he gets sick with fever, diarrea atleast once a month. He also has frequent ear infections and gets itchy rashs all over but especially on his legs. Every time I take him to the ped they say it is a virus. Something isnt right with my baby!! Why is he always sick?
P.S. He stays at home...no daycare. Everyone else in the house is rarely sick. Should I see an immunologist?

Immune Disorders Answer A6024

Most children develop the full potential of their immune system by getting in contact with the viruses and bacteria in the period between the age of two and four. However, if the infections come too often (once every month, as you reported) then you might want to visit an immunologist to see if there is any immunological disorder.
The doctor might be able to give or rule out a possible diagnose based on the physical exam, anamnesis you give and the laboratory blood tests.
