Q: constant chest pain

i've had constant chest pains for 2 months now. I've had a full work up 2 EKG's a echo at rest, a stress test, an echo after exercise all were normal. I finally went back to the dr. last week after constant anxiety about this and he still says he thinks it's just anxiety causing the pain. My upper back is so tense and my shoulders and then my chest hurts usually all over I can't pin point one area. Sometimes it's just right side, sometimes middle breast bone, sometimes my left. I feel like I'm going crazy this is dominating my life. Lots of times the only relief I get is laying flat on my back on a heating pad. I'm 30 yrs. old no health problems other than Depression, I don't smoke drink on ocassion and try to exercise regularly but this panic of chest has unforutnately gotten me down some. Has anyone else experienced this with anxiety? I would appreciate in response and a response from a Dr. would be great!

If your back and chest are tense to the point of pain, you probably should ask your doctor to see a physical therapist to get the muscles to relax. Is it muscle pain, or is it tightness, sharp pain, dull pain? They can work out the tension and teach you exercises and stretches to loosen the muscles. They can also teach you relaxation techniques.

If the pain doesn't go away or get any better, go to another doctor. I always worry when doctors dismiss symptoms as stress and anxiety because too often it's doctor code for "I don't know."

yes it's just a dull ache...I had my arm up under my pillow last night my right one and it was aching underneath my pit like I was just stretching the muscles way to much.

You have to submit the questions to the "Ask a doctor" section. Go to the top of the page and click on the "Ask a Doctor" tab. It sometimes takes a couple of days and with your vague symptoms, you may not get much of an answer, but you are welcome to try.

If it is a dull ache, I think there is a good possibility it is muscular pain, but regardless I think you should see another doctor or go back to the one you've been going to.

I'm currently getting over something similar after pneumonia and pleurisy. Apparently the pain made me tense up my muscles and I didn't un-tense them when I got better. The physical therapy is really helping. If you push on some areas, does it really hurt, like a bad bruise, even though there isn't one? That's how it is for me. The rest is a dull ache and a sharper ache when I take a deep breath.

Go ahead and try posting your question for the doctor. Just be REALLY specific about you symptoms or all you'll get is him telling you he doesn't have enough information and you should see a real doctor. Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.

Are you having any nutritional suppliments? normally when we are under stress we can be deficient in different vits or minerals. For depression & anxiety we should be using vit B complex, it has all the B group vitamins which need to work in conjunction with each other as well as calcium & magnesium which helps with the relaxation & function of all muscles (including the heart). All these help with our well being & can help the thyroid function correctly to make the hormones necessary for a happy disposition. Unfortunately most doctors either don't remember this or aren't taught this in training.

I am vitamin D deficiant and having been taking a supplement for over a month now. I know not having enough vitamin D can make you ache.

so do you think you should try a Vitamin B complex I think it would help your back pain, i use calcium & magnesium to control muscle tension pain but you need to know the quantities & taking a B comp is a safe way to start. even a good multi or one a day could do wonders for you as they are preformulated to have everything in the correct balance. if you want to know more i am happy to be of help!
