I was on the pill for about a year. I recently went off of it because it was causing me a lot of health problems. My boyfriend and I have gone back to just using condoms. I was wondering, what are the chances of me getting pregnant? We make sure we use the condoms correctly everytime, but I still get very nerevous each month. the added stress leads to me being late which makes me jump to conclusions. I just want to know if we will be fine just using condoms or we should stop having sex altogether.

Condoms are less effective than the pill in preventing pregnancy, but more effective at preventing STDs. Correct use helps condoms be more effective (making sure that they are used before the expiration date, not storing them in a warm place such as the car or wallet, using lubricant under and over the condom to prevent breakage, etc). If you are really worried, I would suggest going to the doctor and asking about other methods, such as a diaphragm.

Condoms are a good option for people who cannot take the pill, but there are other options as well. Talk to your doctor about what is most effective for you. While abstinence is the only 100% guarantee (besides sterilization, of course), try exploring other routes before you choose that. Also, there are several types of birth control pills. Maybe another type would give you fewer problems.

Good luck.

Whatever you do keep using condoms. Condoms with spermicide are HIGHLY effective as the spermicide kills the sperm, no sperm, no fertilized egg no pregnancy and certainly no STDs.

You could always pair condoms with spermicides and another form of spermicides.

There are options for women who cannot take hormonal birth control, and they are plenty safe if used correctly. Smile
