My boyfriend and I had sex this last sunday afternoon (Dec. 4th, 2011) and the condom broke right as he was ejaculating leading to a decent amount in my vagina. I was supposed to receive my period today (Dec 7th, 2011). I have not received it yet and my last period started Nov. 9, 2011 and lasted about 6 days. My periods are typically very regular on a 28 day cycle. I also take birth control but the past couple week I have been forgetting and doubling up every other daybecause of finals for school. I know that reduces effectiveness but we also went and got Next choice plan b pill and I took the first dose within an hour after sex and I took the next pill exactly 12 hours after the first. I am stressing about this and need some reassurance. I have read that plan b causes some people to not receive their period as well. What are my chances of being pregnant? And when should i take a pregnancy test if I dont receive my period this month? If I receive this month's period am I in the clear (since the sex was just a few days before I was supposed to get it) or will I not be in the clear until next month's period? PLEASE HELP!

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum,
The emergency contraceptive pills should work in preventing pregnancy if you have taken the first pill within 24-48 hours of the unprotected intercourse and taken the second pill after 12 hours (provided you were not sexually active without protection after taking the ECP). Since the emergency contraceptives contain high doses of hormones, these can disrupt the normal hormonal and period pattern. Wait and watch for your next periods which can be delayed. Visit your doctor/gynecologist for further evaluation and assistance. Be regular in taking your birth control pills at the scheduled time daily or discuss with your treating doctor/gynecologist about getting started on suitable alternate birth control measures (injectable form or Depo shot or Implant). Avoid repeated use of ECP.
Take care.
