Morning after pill can work in three different ways: It prevents the release of the egg, it prevents the sperm from meeting the egg, and finally it prevents the fertilized egg from implantation. If implantation has already happened then plan b will have no effect.
It's about 89% effective (give or take) when taken within the first 72 hours, and from there the percentage drops depending on how long you waited (you can take it up to 120 hours).
You did what you needed to do, so now you just kind of have to wait it out to see if it worked. I know you said that you read up on it, but I still want to give you a heads up that your period will probably be a little weird for up to 3 months. It could be late or early, heavy or light, or you may just have some unusual spotting for awhile-- it's normal. So try not to panic if your period isn't how it always is or if you start feeling like junk for awhile. --- I just don't want you to worry if you don't have to. If your period doesn't come when you're expecting it, then take a pregnancy test just in case.
Have you considered doubling up two different forms of birth control?
