High Blood Pressure and Hypertension Answer A7463
Hi
Welcome to the forum!
If you boy friend has high blood pressure since the age of 18 years and his average BP is 140/80 then even with medication the BP is not under control. High blood pressure at a very young age can be due to genetic factors or due to some disease. If the blood pressure remains under control, the life expectancy is normal. Uncontrolled BP can reduce the life expectancy and cause problems like stroke, heart failure, kidney failure etc.
Either the medicine is not suiting him or he has a problem that has not been looked into.
Your friend needs to consult a cardiologist for his BP. He would need to run tests like kidney function, liver function, lipid profile, thyroid, adrenal gland function, heart problems etc. He would need to eat healthy, exercise regularly as advised by his cardiologist, maintain his cholesterol and lipids under control and he should be fine.
Hope this helps. Take care!
