Q: Complications of a hysterectomy
asked by: DoctorQuestion on December 21st, 2008
Doctor says I need a hysterectomy, take my uterus and cervix, leave my ovaries..I have 2 kids and have already had my tubes tied.I am only 28 years old,and I have read on some forums that women have severe leg pain and headaches. My mother in law had trouble with her bladder, during the surgery they accidentally cut it and they had to fix it.I am just worried that trying to fix one problem could create another for me to have to worry about.tThanks

Hysterectomy Answer A5128
Current medical status: endometriosis, have had 3 laproscopic curgeries for it
Current medical treatment: pain medication for the pain during and after my menstrual cycle.doctor planning on doing hysterectomy. taking out my uterus and cervix.

A hysterectomy is a surgical procedure in which the uterus is removed. Sometimes the ovaries are removed also. In both cases the bladder is not affected. The complications that might occur include the same complications as in any other major operation: infection, allergy to anesthetics, blood loss and pain.
