Q: colposcopy and biopsy

I am 22 years old and I have pretty bad anxiety. I have to get a colposcopy and biopsy next week and I am very scared! What should I expect? How painful is it? Will I be prescribed pain medication for afterwards? Will I be unable to engage in regular activity for a few days? Is so, how many? How long do the results take? Any information is appreciated.

First of, relax. The timeline usually goes Pap smear... wait for results. Biospy... wait for results.

The Biopsy is a pinch. Honestly. A PINCH or possibly a few pinches, depending on what the doctor sees. You don't need pain medication. You can take ibuprofen and be fine. The whole process takes LESS than 5 minutes. From the time the doctor inserts the speculum to the time the doctor walks out of the room afterwards - five minutes. You can resume your normal activity immediately. As soon as it is over, you'll get dressed and walk right out. The most you'll feel is some very minor cramps like your period a little and that won't even last very long.

Results depend on your doctor. It can take 1-2 weeks for the results.

Yes, it is just like extended pap smear. And maybe they won't do biopsy. I didn't had biopsy when I had my colposcopy. Nothing to fear of.
