So my niece has just been hospitalized with completely impacted ascending and transverse colon. It took them three days in the hospital to get her cleaned out and then they sent her home. The problem is that this is not the first time it has happened and she has to go in whenever it happens. Nobody can seem to figure out her issue so that it can be corrected.

Doctors are telling her that the nerves in her colon don't work anymore so basically she doesn't process normally. The people at the hospital don't really take it too seriously anymore, but I think it is super important. She doesn't eat much because of this and she is 8 and looks like she is 5. She was diagnosed with having a stroke in the uterus which has led to some physical development problems.

Does anyone have any recommendations or know of any hospitals in the US that specialize in children's disorders of these types?

Thanks

I've been dealing with impaction, not as severe. I'm trying to add lots of fluids to my daily diet, also oils to keep the stools soft -- such as olive oil and flax oil, aloe vera to stimulate the urge to push it out.
