Q: 3 collapsed lungs

Since december, I have suffered from 3 collapsed lungs, bronchitius, and constant trouble breathing. Everytime I have had a collapsed lung, I have gne to the emergency room and they have sent me home after telling me that it was two small for them to do anything about. I have been referred to a specialist, but I have not gotten a call from their office, even though it has been three months. Does anyone know what could be causing this and how I can get the doctors to actually treat me?
I play trombone in the school band and also sing in two of the school choirs. I would really love to be able to do that again. My mom thinks that the playing is what has been causing these collapses. Can anybody help me, please?

I don't think she's right. Your mother should be on the phone day and night until she gets an appointment with a SPECIALIST for you. Why isn't she doing this????

I usually take care of my own health matters, and right now is a busy season for her at work. I've been trying, but every time I call the health line here, they want me to get an abulance and go straight to the hospital, but thats not covered by my parents insurance, so I always refuse.

Young lady, my heart goes out for you, and you are in my prayers. I too, has suffered from 3 collapsed lungs;
this is a very serious medical problem! I'm sure your sickness did not come from your school activities as your mother stated. As far as the health care providers refusing to take your lung collaspes as a life and death matter, I find that there is a matter needs to be looked into by some legal personels. I don't know what part of the world you live in, but you needs medical attentions, and there are no job in which your mother can be involved in is more important than the health of her dauther! What hurts the most is the facts that you are so young! I am in my golden years, and I had the first lung collapse in Nov. 03, I was admitted in the Hospital, and stayed for 1 week; during which time they inserted tubes in my side and pumped it up again. After being out of the hospital for 1 weed, it collapsed the second time. For the next 2 weeks, I was in 2 different hospitals! They pumped it up again, and during which time, while in the first hospital, it collapse even the third time, and they sent me to the second hospital; but they did what they needed to do and I have been out of the hospital since Dec. 21-03, and I am doing good, but I don't do much exercises anymore. I live in the Southeast part of the USA. on the Alabama/Georgia States line. I am concern about you, again, you are in my prayers. If you will like to; you may PM me, and I will give you more information on collapsed lungs. Take care--bo21!!!!

I live in canada. They collapsed roughly 2 months apart, and i just suffered from another collapse on tuesday. Its tough having to give up music because I love it, but my mom doesnt want me hurting myself again. Each time I've gone to the emergency room, they've sent me home a few hours later, telling me that it would clear up on its own. I don't know if this is because we go when its really crowded(late morning or afternoon), or because our hospital has a problem with overcrowding.

Well You should get it checked out immediately.
myself have suffered from my right lug collapsing 3 times in the space of less than 2 months, infact i've only recently recovered. Im 19 and mines were due to spontaneous pneumothoraxes, common in tall skinny people. so if this applies to yourself then consider it a possibility, i had a chest drain inserted into my chest cavity each time pump the lung back up, after the third time i got an operation to stick my lung onto the chest wall, to prevent it from actually collapsing again, because of the frequency of my pneumothorax. My advice is if at anytime you feel short of breath or than your respiratory system isnt funtioning properly then pest the doctor or more idealy go straight to A&E. lung are pretty important to you, hope this helps Wink

oh and yeah, a pneumothorax causes a large pocket of air if you like, which commpresses the lung thus making it collapse, depending on the size of the pneumothorax (if its small the body should be able to deal with it on its own) you might have to get a chest drain inserted otherwise (and not to alarm you) it can cause stress and pressure on your other lung and cause it to fail or collapse. this is uncommon, but never the less make sure you get it seen to as it is a serious matter.(just realized the date of post), my first collapse was on the 3rd of june lol, i hope you have had it seen to and you are healthy anyway =)
