Could you give me your opinion on this thyroid problem I have.
I have a 2.5cm hot nodule in left lobe and two cold nodules 1.1 cm in right lobe.
I had scan / biopsy the hot nodule and the pathology come back with “Benign. However there are slightly atypical cell due to this a follicular neoplasm can not be completely ruled out “
The doctor recommends me to take radioactive iodine to kill the hot nodule. The cold nodules contain some calcifications.
Could you please give me your opinion on these hot and cold noduals ? I am concern about calcification in cold noduals and atypical cells in hot nodual ?Is the radioactive iodine the proper tratement ?
TSH <0.06,T4,T3 normal
Thank you

Approximately 15% of cold thyroid nodules are caused by thyroid cancer, while only about 5% of hot thyroid nodules are caused by cancer.

If a fine needle biopsy (FNA) of any of these nodules contains suspicious cells, then surgical removal of at least the half of the thyroid gland containing the suspicious nodule(s) should be considered (there are several different types of thyroid cancer and, unfortunately, only one type, papillary thyroid cancer, can reliably be diagnosed by FNA).
