I had a sinus infection at the end of
september......It was different than I
usually experience b/c it felt like strep
throat! I was treated w/ an anti-biotic,
then steriod pack........It took about 10
days for my throat to feel better.
Almost instantly my ears became clogged
and I also have post-nasal drip. I went
back to the Dr., took a sinus x-ray which
still revealed some infection....Took
another anti-biotic. During this time, I
had a couple of trips planned which led to
several plane rides....I'm sure that
didn't help.
I've since visited an ent, done a ct of my
sinuses, only to reveal no infection.
The only thing he could see was enlarged
nasal tissues!! Everthing that I have
been reading says that even after the
infection is gone, inflammation can
linger...Leading to my clogged ears and
post nasal drip. Why it's still going on
is beyond me!!!!!!!!!!!!! And, it's
really driving me insane!
I'm wondering why this inflammation is not
going away?? The ent suggested that
surgery to reduce my nasal turbinates
could help.......Surely I don't need
surgery after having a sinus
infection???????
I'm confused!!
Can anyone offer any suggestions or has
anyone ever experienced lingering effects
such as these??
Thanks!

I'm taking a shot at answering you....I do
not know if this could be it for you...But
your ears could simply be a result of wax.
Last week I myself went to the doctor for
what I thought was an ear infection. I
felt deaf in my left ear it was so bad and
my right was getting the same way. Come
to find out, no infection, and my ears
were "clogged" with wax. I keep my ears
very clean and use q-tips which we
actually should not use. They cleaned
them and I feel like I can hear better
than ever. What a relief it was!
I know how you feel, not being able to
hear anything but what sounds like waves,
is terrible!! I felt so good after the
cleaning, that I recommend everyone
getting their ears checked and cleaned
once a year. Good luck!

Thank you for responding.
Wouldn't a Dr. Be able to see the wax
build up? When the ent looked in my
ears, he said he could tell they were
"sucked" up, whatever that means.
What type of Dr. Cleans ears? Also,
i've never felt this before and it came on
after an infection....Did yours? I also
have a raw feeling in my upper throat/back
of nose.

i'm sorry, did I miss where you said you
have been to a doctor? I apologize, I
have a 7 month old and my mind is
elsewhere sometimes!
Did the doc actually check your ears? If
so, then yes, they should have been able
to see the wax, if that is what it was.
It seems wierd that they cannot figure out
what is bothering your ears. Maybe you
should ask them about an ear specialist,
referring you to one. There is no
specific doctor that cleans ears, my
family physician did. I went in
suspecting an ear infection and it was
wax, so the nurse cleaned them. I guess
that is what they do in situations like
mine. I don't think you can actually make
an appt to get them cleaned. (haha)
i'm not sure what he meant by "sucked up",
how come you didn't ask? Always ask
questions. Many people don't, (i used to
be one of them) but you pay them plenty of
money to be able to ask anything!!).
I'm not sure what that feeling in the back
of your throat is. Maybe you should get a
second opinion. Obviously this is really
bothering and of course it is, it is your
ears! Keep me informed, I really hope you
get better soon.

Clogged Ears!! Posted: 11-21-05 22:48pm
My biggest problems are clogged ears, raw
feeling behind the nose/throat and sore
tonsils (which is b/c of the drainage).
I think the drainage from the infection I
had left things inflammed or
swollen.....But I thought everything would
be back to normal by now.
I told myself I would make another Dr.
Appt if I wasn't feeling better by
thanksgiving, so......I need to schedule
something soon.
I will never go back to the ent that I
saw. He was a jerk and literally quoted
that the science of medicine is all about
how to be profitable. You know, how many
patients can you see in a day....Blah,
blah, blah. The visit actually made me
cry! I was asking alot of questions,
until he pissed me off and then I just
wanted to leave. He even told me that he
didn't have a "magic" pill for me.
Well...If anyone can give me some insight
to these symptoms of mine, that would be
great! Please!
Sunshine424, sounds like you're busy with
a 7 month old.....There are so many
postings out here...I've never done this
before, but it's nice to chat.
