Q: Clicking noises in head

I had a fall and broke both of my ankles 1 month ago. I did not hit my head. The ankles have been treated and I am recovering.

About two weeks ago, I noticed that when I was quiet, i.e, not talking on the phone, watching television, or concentrating on reading, there is a clicking in my head that sounds exactly like a pilot light trying to catch on a burner on a gas stove. It is in the middle of the back of my head. It has been going on intermittently for the past two weeks, sometimes making me crazy. At times it is so loud that I yell. STOP IT. And it does for a few seconds. I am actually hearing it right now while I'm typing this.

I am not mentally ill, I have never heard voices in my head or any of that.

Can any MD shed some light on what this can be and what to do about it?

Thank you,

Varda

I have clicking noises in my head and neck. I have heard different claims. Someone suggested it is due ti synovial fluid, one woman claims she got hers along with post nasal drip (which I suffer from) someone else said hers was due to high blood pressure and cleared up when she got medictaed correctly.

I have a feeling it is synovial fluid and I get tense bery tyoe headaches alongside of it. I also have sinus.

Honey I am not a doctor but I can tell you I hear crunching and for me it is due to disc disease and a rushing sound in the ear after I had surgery on the thyroid..It's possible you may have not known you had a injury but I would think a MRI may be needed to rule that out for sure..It also is possible for you to have a ear problem..A fall can do alot of toruble wihtout our realizing it at the time..So please get checked to be sure..k
