Q: Cleaning after sex ?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on March 24th, 2009
I would like to know a safe, and better way to clean myself after having sex. Of course, I clean myself as normal (shower), but because my partner and I do not use condoms, after a day or two there is an oder as the secretions drain ( sorry!)(does this happen to everyone?). This has always happened. It's not a foul oder but it's definitely an oder. I can tell something has been going on in there. Is there something wrong or is this normal? I never hear anyone talk about it and my friends and I talk about everything (and it's a bunch of us). I try to only douche after my period, I can't douche every time I have sex. Please help me! This is embarrassing! I'm not sure if anyone else can smell, but I can, and I al ready have a BIG complex about my order, so stinking is a problem for me. Please, please help me!

The odor you experience several days after intercourse might be related to bacterial or fungal infection of the vagina. Vaginal swab might help to confirm or to rule out this diagnose.
If no vaginal infection is present, then your boyfriend might be altering the normal vaginal flora (bacteria normally found in the vagina). It would need several days for the flora to reach again its normal level. Meanwhile, odor might be present because of the degrading products which are altered by the same altered bacteria. The odor is usually not very strong and you should not worry about it so much if infection is already ruled out.
