Chronic Vaginal Issues after Bacterial Vaginosis Posted: 04-29-08 23:50pm
I’m 35 and never had any vaginal issues.
Only a miscarriage in May of 2006. In
May of 2007, I was dignosed with Bacterial
Vaginosis. It took 3 doses of Flagyl to
clear the infection. About two weeks
later, I noticed the following outbreak of
symptoms:
- Vaginal inflammation/swelling (Vulva
& internal)
- Sensation of tightness (probably the
inflammation)
- Redness & irritation
- Discomfort (no severe pain)
- Distended belly (bloating)
- Pressure on my bladder
These outbreaks have been constant since
last May. They last about 7-14 days, go
away, then come back a week or two later.
I have gone to 3 different gynos and
nobody seems to know what's wrong and why
these outbreaks occur. I have had 2 STD
tests and all results were negative except
for the HSV-1 (oral herpes - cold sores)
which came back positive. The doc told me
this is nothing to worry about since I
have never had any cold sores or any sores
any where on my body - it just means I've
been exposed to the virus.
I've had numerous other blood tests, urine
tests, cultures and all come back negative
except for yeast. I've been treated
numerous times with Diflucan and vaginal
inserts. They don't help.
Now, she wants to put me on a Diflucan
treatment of 2x/month for extended period
of time or give me Valtrex for the HSV1
and see what happens. I really don't want
to take Valtrex if I don't need it.
I've been living with this for almost a
year and I'm tired & exhausted with
it. I’m also in a new relationship of 9
months and this puts a major damper on the
intimacy. Can anyone help?
