For the past 2 1/2 months I have had a sore throat that will just not go away. The pain ranges, on the good days, from mild to severe. It is fine(no pain) in the morning and from there gets progressively worse. It starts on the right side of my throat and as the day goes on it spreads to the left. By night the pain has started to radiate to my ears, usually the right having the more significant pain. I have trouble sleeping and eating because of the pain and like I said, by morning it is fine but then continues it's normal phase through the rest of the day. I have been to my GP several times and have had strep tests done with results coming back negative and also when she looked in my throat saw nothing. I also ended up in urgent care because the pian got so severe I couldn't talk and it was extremely painful to swallow. It had felt like I was punched repeatedly in the throat, it actually gets painful to touch my throat. The lymphs nodes in my throat at times are swollen, but not all the time. I have tried everything I can think of, pain medications, benedryl, salt gargle and changing my toothbrush. I have seen some of the same symptoms on other posts, but like those I do not have acid reflux. Also I do not drink and neither my husband or myself smoke. This is really starting to wear on me so any help would be greatly appreciated.

throat and ear pain
I've been having the same thing, for around 4 weeks now. Tried this mouth wash from my doctor along with a Nasonex, seems to work as long as I stick to it. The mouth wash is Benzydamine (by prescription). I am a smoker and drinker, but don't think this is the cause...although maybe contributing to the ongoing pain.

I've been tested for strep as well, nothing. Also took a round of antibiotics which did nothing.

I'm going to the specialist in a few weeks, ear/nose/throat. Hoping they can explain something cause just like you, its beginning wear on me.

Well, did either of you get a diagnosis? What was it? It sounds like what my girlfriend has. Are there general diagnoses given here?

throat and ear pain
I went to an ear/nose/throat (ENT) specialist, he commented on acid reflux. Suggested some changes to my diet (taking out high acidic foods...tomatoes etc), but truth be told, I didn't and the pain just went away randomly. I mentioned that I'm a cronic gum chewer to my doctor and that also results in acid reflux...so I've cut down on that.

I will say though, that over that period of time that I was experiencing the pain, my diet had changed in that I was eating more and putting on weight, I'm back to my regular 170lbs and making sure not to snack too much...perhaps that was a contributor???

hi...

Tensluv, u arent alone. Just like ingenue74, im also experiencing chronic and severe sore throat. It feels irritated, inflamed and raw. in fact, i noticed there is some red streaks!!!! Everything started in february with this annoying need to clear up my throat all day...non stop. Every time i had coke, my voice wore up. (i dont drink it anymore). I thought my allergies were bothering me..since i suffer from many types of food and enviromental ones. Anyway, 2 months ago, it got worse....Besides the extra mucus i have in the back of my throat after i eat, i started burping and having acid reflux!!!!! For first time in my life, i felt a heartburn.....HORRIBLE!! I went to see my PCP and said i have GERD. Well, he prescribed me Pepcid. 5 days later i got worse...OMG. I woke up naseaus...with a bloated stomach. He changed my prescription for Omeprazole. It has been over a month with no improvement. So, now im taking nexium and besides all my symptoms, now i have diarrhea.
This thursday im going to see an ENT to check my throat. My PCP thinks its GERD ......but...will see.

HOpefully my journey helps.
