I was involved in a head on collision three years ago. As a result, I fractured my right clavicle. Since then, I've had serious, chronic burning pain in the back part of my shoulder. I've seen seven doctors in three years, and I've even tried massage therapy, acupuncture, and a chiropractor. I've gone through physical therapy four times, done laser therapy, and have been injected about 25 times with different types of cortisone and sugar. I've had two cervical epidural injections which have been the only injections that helped relieve some of the pain; however, they've since worn off. I've recently seen a pain management doctor and a neurologist, but no one can put a finger on my problem. I've been told that the pain will get better over time, but it's been three years. I'm so angry and frustrated that no one can help me. I've treated with an orthopedic doctor, family doctor, and two physiatrists. There has to be someone like me who has had this chronic burning pain and received treatment that was successful. I'm tired putting a band-aid on my problem with injections, pills, etc. I'm seeking a permanent solution so that I can resume a normal life. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Have you ever done X-ray or MRI of the cervical (neck) spine to see if there is some pinched spinal nerve?

Chronic Shoulder Pain
I've recently had an MRI (which showed a few minor disc herniations but nothing that was fixable), but I haven't had x-rays since the healing of the initial injury which was in 2001. I know that the clavicle did not heal straight; the bone is angulated. I've never really had much pain in my bones until recently. I feel like the pain in my shoulder is starting to affect the entire area--down into the first third of my arm.

If those disk herniations are located in the neck spine and make pressure on the cervical spinal nerves your symptoms could be due to them.
I can't believe that clavicle fracture (even if not healed correctly) can cause such pains in the arm and shoulder.
You should consult some neurologist, orthopedist or neurosurgeon about your problem.

Five shoulder surgeries and still have pain. I have arthritis in my right shoulder which is getting worse. I am 45 years old and have major scar tissue problems also. I use my shoulder or shoulders and I really pay for it or they hurt several days after: weakness and swelling down arm. Physical therapy is my best relief with ice and heat?
