I have been battling yeast infections increasingly over the past few years. I am now in a very good relationship where I want very much to be intimate. The problem is that each time I think the infection is cleared up, it comes back. When it's clear, sex is very enjoyable with no pain, we can even enjoy this multiple times per day. When I'm having a bout with an infection though, sex is painful, but just superficially...it feels as if there is some tearing. It stings a little and there is usually some blood smear on the sheets (embarrasing!) afterward. Again, no inner pain at all.

I've tried everything except going off the pill and going to a sugar-free diet to attack the chronic infections. I now take 20 billion cfu per day of an expensive probiotic blend and use Rephresh every 3 days. I'm going off the pill when this pack is finished to see if that fixes the problem, but in the meantime sex is still painful. I'm just so embarrassed and frustrated at this point! I've treated for an infection four times in 6 months...with prescriptions, not OTC because it doesn't work on the strain I get. I would think it's normal except that when it's all clear, there's no discharge and no pain or bleeding with sex, so I'm pretty sure that is what's normal, not the other.

I'm afraid to go back to my gyno lest she think I'm just crazy, but I feel like my vagina is on my mind 24/7. I just want to get normal and stay normal. Please help!

Chronic Yeast Infections
I definitely feel your pain. I got a yeast infection back in the beginning of March and since then it has come back each time I finish a treatment. I am also in a relationship and it is just so frustrating not being able to be intimate with the person you love. I am going back to the doctor tomorrow, I am going to ask if there is a different anti-fungal and to give it to me for a longer time, with a maintenance dose after that.

Have you tried Boric Acid tablets? Those worked the best for me... it did come back but I think that is because I was had sex with my boyfriend (finally!) and he might have been carrying the infection. So now I have another infection. So you should tell your boyfriend to get checked by the doctor as well, and even if the doctor says he's fine you should ask for the prescription for him anyway. It will at least rule out the possibility that you are transferring back and forth. And if your infection goes away completely and then comes back, I'd say that's a definite possibility.

I know how you feel! I feel like my vagina is taking over my life and I just want to have a normal sex life.
I'll let you know what my doctor says and tell you if my new treatment is working. Please if you figure something out let me know!

you and your partner may be spreading it back and fourth... most doctors say it isn't possible but actually it is...

See if the Dr will give you extra pills for yeast to give to your BF. Mine did. He took it but mine didn't go away till I got my PH balanced with the help of Rephresh. I know the first poster says she uses that and I am suprised that it doesn't help if not cure. But everyone is different. I highly recommend Rephresh. It saved me! I too thought about my vajayjay 24/7. It sucks!!! Good luck to all of you.

I seem to have chronic yeast infections ever since I stopped taking the drug accutane. This is ridiculous because I stopped takingh accutane about 5 years ago! I have no idea if there is a connection or not. I also had a LEEP procedure done last march so for all I know, this has also changed the pH of my vagina which could be causing all of this itchy discharge. My doctor put me on flagystatin for ten days, and it worked for maybe 2 days then my yeast infection came right back, full force!
I feel like my vaginal problems are taking over my life as well, they are always on my mind because |I am always uncomfortable and itchy!
Anyway, I was thinking of trying the rephresh gel (I'm already taking the rephresh yeast blocker pills and they don't seem to be helping yet) and I was just wondering if it's worth it to try the rephresh gel? Could this just be an out of whack pH balance that is causing all of my problems?
Thanks!

My yeast infection started about the second week of June. It actually started out as a foul smell, so I tried using yogurt, because I thought I had BV, and that was when the itching started. Finally went to the doctor about the end of July, and he gave me one Diflucan and told me to use vinegar and water douche for 3 days. The Diflucan helped while I was taking it, but then the yeast came right back. So the doctor called in another one pill Diflucan, and told me to go to my regular doctor (I was at a walk in clinic out of town). So our regular doctor moved away, so this other doctor was new to me also. Without even examining me, he prescribed a 3 day Diflucan, and the yeast came back. Then he prescribed Metrondiazole, and the Nitrofurantoin. I also had been using OTC creams the whole time, which do almost nothing, but they do help make it a bit more bearable. So finally, this doctor does a culture on me, and I TOLD HIM I was using the yeast cream. They tested me for BV, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and yeast. When they called and said it all came back negative, I wanted to cry. At this point, I have bleeding, itching, hurting, and there's a small lesion on my butt that I know is caused by the yeast. I am going to another doctor on Sept. 20th, but this other doctor did call in another 3 day diflucan for me, and I took the last one yesterday. I am using white vinegar douches and treating the lesion with straight vinegar. It's been probably 15 years since I've had a yeast infection, and this one will not go away!! I can't believe I'm starting on the 3rd month of this crap. I'm healthy, exercise, eat right, and work out. It scares me to death that something like this can be so out of control. If I ever get cured, I will post on here what worked. I am going to ask to be prescribed something other than diflucan. I'm sorry, but I don't think it's the miracle drug that everyone thinks it is.

ok hun STOP with the vinegar duches.. you might be doing more harm than good... I too have had yeast infections ongoing for about 3 to 4 years now... DIFLUCAN NEVER WORKS not for me at least.. if you still have faith in the drugs docs give you try NYSTATIN it got rid of my yeast infection for about 2 months and i have no idea why it came back but it did... nystatin isnt something the docs like to prescribe.. so you must insist however you cant be on it for too long.. its a really strong antifungal so try that and see how it works for you. I'm really sorry to hear your pain.... i suffer from the same exact thing!
stay strong

Resistant Vaginal Yeast infections
I have been having yeast infections for as long as I can remember! Even before I was sexually active in my early teens. THere was a time where I was getting them almost every month. I am in my 40's and finally this year I have only had 2 yeast infections. Diflucan does not work for me either I have tried taking 3 doses of it, which did nothing !! I feel like I am going nuts too because all I do is think of my Vagina!!! I am pretty healthy no problems with any of my other body parts... I feel that stress has been a big factor in contributing to these yeast infections. Anyhow what has helped me is lots of yogurt but watch the sugar content in them,Florajen 3 (hight potency Probiotic),drink lots of water, cotton under wear and the reduction of stress. I swear when I am highly stressed my Vagina is the first to warn me with -itchyness, swelling and pain!! Terconazole Vaginal cream 0.8% (prescription) is one of the few things that work. Hope this is helpful!

coconut oil
Do NOT use white vinegar. Douching with white vinegar can upset the natural balance of bacteria in the vagina. ONLY use APPLE CIDER VINEGAR. It will kill the yeast, but it will burn. That is a good sign.

DIFLUCAN does NOT work for anyone. The problem with conventional medicine is that it generally does not restore a healthy body ecology, allowing a recurring yeast infection.

I know women who have used coconut oil. The active ingredients in coconut oil are caprylic acid, capric acid and lauric acid. These fatty acids are powerful antimicrobial agents. They kill bacteria, viruses and fungi by causing their cell walls to disintegrate.

There are studies that show how that consuming coconut oil is more effective than fluconazole (Diflucan).

You should also consider going a candida diet. That's where you eliminate starchy foods, sugar, alcohol, fruit juice. But, consume more water and vegetable juice. You should also consider taking probiotics and a good multivitamin.
