hello everyone,
41 year old male, long history of binge drinking. Past 2 years had a few boughts of abdominal pain that felt like a belt was being tightened around my waist, abdominal cramping, back pain, hard to even walk upright. This on a night of drinking. Would clear up next day or so after no alcohol.
4 months ago woke up after a night of drinking with same symptoms, pain has never subsided. I am in pain now writing this. Had blood tests, CT Scan, Upper GI scope, all normal. Have not had alcohol since Feb 14/09 today May 1/09 no change in symptoms, but possibly milder. Can't sit for longer than 15 min without making it alot worse.
I ask about this because it seems everyone talks about flare ups now and again. Mine NEVER goes away. With negative tests does this sound like early stages of CP? What do you do at this stage? Pain is unbearable. Probably need to fast but they wont check me into hospital with no diagnosis.
Totally feeling helpless, can't imagine walking around like this for the rest of my life with no treatment. This is not a health care issue I live in Canada can see the doctor 50 times a day if I want.
Anyone advice would be appreciated.

Pancreas
My friend you and i have exactly the same issues and symtoms. I've had every test in the book. All are negitive. I've been told there's nothing wrong with me so many times but I have severe pains exactly like you discribed. I'm a few more months a head of you as I woke up on dec 15th,2008 with the worst body pain i could emagine. for a year prior I only had a side ache in my left side. Yes, I was a binge drinker also. Yes, it's signs of your pancreas shutting down or not working from what I can find out. What you need to do is a fat test. You will need to eat 100g of fat for 6 days in a row. For the first 3 days it's just setting you up for the remaining 3 days for stool samples. The pain you feel is your body sucking the protien and nutrients out of your muscles. Your pancreas isn't producing enzymes that you need to break down the fat and other nutrients you body needs. You never mentioned your stools but i'm assuming for the 2 years prior to the body pain you had diarhea or not normal stools. More than likely green in color. Look for fat the next time you go the bathroom. I've been told for 7 months nothings wrong with me but after my own investigations it could be cancer. I'm on my way in to the hospital in 45 mins to have my pancreas checked. I've lost over 60 pounds now and can't afford to wait. I've even been to a G.I. doctor at The Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, AZ and was told nothings wrong with me. Pill cam, xray, iodine xrays and colonoscopies won't help you. Do the fecial fatty test. I spelled that wrong but your G.I.doctor will know what it is. You should be able to save your life at your point of issues, for me unfortuanatly if it's indeed cancer i'm to sick now to have surgery or radiation. Best of luck to you and if you ever go to the Mayo Clinic do not see Doctor Gupta as he might have cost me my life by telling me nothings wrong with my G.I. track. The pancreas was never tested by him. Hope this info helps. fyi- DO NOT LET THE DOCTORS PERSCRIBE OXYCONTIN AS YOU WILL JUST STACK THEM UP IN YOUR G.I. TRACK UNDIGESTED. I PASSED 12 AT ONE TIME 3 DAYS AGO. GET THE PAIN BACK PATCH IF YOUR PANCREAS ISN'T PRODUCING ENZYMES TO BREAK DOWN FOOD OR MEDS.STRESS DOESN'T HELP ANYTHING EITHER. Thanks, Dan in Arizona.

I was way off on the doctors name at the Mayo Clinic NOT TO SEE. His name is Suryakanth R. Gurudu, M.D.. If he can't physically see what's wrong with you he will send you home and move on to the next patient. He never one time checked my pancreas or ordered tests on it after I told him my symptoms and areas of pain. This is the link. Please warn anyone you know that might be going to the Mayo Clinic NOT TO SEE HIM. http://www.mayoclinic.org/bio/13185373.htm l

Forgot to add another thing. What you did is burnt your pancreas with all the drinking. I think that the pain you have in colon inflamation from not being able to break down foods. Take pentasa and prendisone. That will help the colon. You will want to get on enzyme pills asap or you'll loss and ungodly amount of weight and the pain is unberable as the body sucks the protein out of your muscles 24/7. I will note what the hospital says when i return.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I am not losing weight. Doctor did prescribe digestive enzymes just to see if it would alleviate the pain however this had the opposite effect for me and gave me flare ups that were twice as bad so stopped taking them. I did have the stool test done and was normal. My stools are quite normal in general with no obvious signs of fat or oil.
I see you are from the US boy I hope you have a good health care plan know treatment can be very expensive for you folks. Was vacationing in Hawaii a few years back and got a simple ear infection from all the swimming. Was reimbursed through insurance but got close to $600 in bills for hospital and medication. Never seen anything like that in my life. Not sure how you guys deal with it.
