Q: Chronic ear pain

I have been experiencing ear pain off and on for a few years. I seen a doctor but the couldn't find anything wrong. About 9 years ago I had an ear infection that I let go for a long time due to the fact that I didn't have health insurance. I finally went to the hospital and I took antibiotics, but it seems that ever since then I keep getting this reacurring pain. My question is, could the infection from so long ago have damaged my ear drum or something, causing this horrible pain to keep returning?
