I just got new life insurance and did the blood and urine test. Here are the items that stood out in my tests:

Cholesterol/HDL Ratio 6.96 -- 0.00-4.99 Expected value
Triglycerides 370 -- 10-190mg/dL Expected value
URN Specific Grav 1.037 -- 1.003-1.035 Expected value

I know this basically tells me that I have high cholesterol, but is it really bad? I go to the gym but 70% weight training but I guess should start doing more cardio excercises to lose the bad weight. I also take a multivitamin daily. I'm turning 30. Any advice??

Your triglycerides seem quite high - such that LDL is almost at the point where it cannot be accurately determined from those values.

When did you start going to the gym? For how long do you go? What is your diet like?

If these cannot be managed to get your cholesterol to an appropriate level, drugs might be prescribed. Increasing cardio fitness may aid you but if it is a hereditary disorder, these measures might not be enough.

I've been going to the gym for about 6 months now but like I've stated I do mainly weight training. I try to go for 3-4 days a week at 30-45min because of my schedule. As for my diet, that can definitely change. I try to eat a balance meal but I can tell you that doesn't always happen. I usually eat cereal in the morning and have a lite lunch like maybe a sandwhich and for dinner some rice and chicken. If meat is on the menu its always chicken for me. I do eat steak and such but not often. Alot of times I eat whats available but keep it at small portions. I think better eating habits and decrease in weight training and more cardio training may help.

The calculation is LDL=Total cholesterol - (triglycerides/5 HDL). So you need your triglyceride level too to calculate HDL.This is only valid if the triglyceride level is <400 mg/dL.

So what does that mean exactly? Not understanding the calculations you just stated.

I think she meant to say that the triglycerides are too high to calculate the LDL.
