My total cholesterol is 236
But my HDL is 103 , LDL is 100 (near optimal), tryglicerides is 165. My doctor told me that I have to take medicine to lower my cholesterol. Is it right? I think the total number is high because HDL is high.

The problem with cholesterol is that it is a lot harder to get the good cholesterol up & it is always the bad that is the issue. I'm not familiar with the readings you have stated (as i'm from a different country) but if you get the good chlserol too low & you also have stroke issues, i have posted about this else where in this forum but seing you are on line i will explain, "C" melts at 149deg F, add lecithin & melt point drops to 84 degF, add omega 3(flax oil), melt point drops to zero. Using these may also help eliminate "C" or fatty liver issues in the liver, this should also help balance the good "C"

for your hdl to be higher than ldl is almost a miracle if you want to use drugs or blockers to lower your cholesterol be careful as these also have side effects & dangers esspecially if they bring "C" down too low you run the risk of stroke.
