High Cholesterol (Hyperlipemia)
What is high cholesterol?
Cholesterol is one of lipids in the blood, another form of blood lipid is triglycerides. Dyslipidemia, high cholesterol, hyperlipidemia, hyperlipoproteinemia, hypercholesterolemia or Hypertriglyceridemia, refers to an abnormally high level of cholesterol or triglycerides in the bloodstream.
Causes of High Cholesterol
Foods that contain high levels of saturated fat is an important factor
Other risk factors, such as smoking, drinking too much,etc
some types of high cholesterols are due to inherited or genetic defects. Familial hypercholesterolaemia (FH) is the inherited high cholesterol levels, and familial combined hyperlipidaemia (FCH) is where the triglyceride levels are very high as well.
Diagnosis of High Cholesterol
After fasting for 12 hours, during which only water should be consumed,a blood test called a lipoprotein profile to measure cholesterol levels.
