My mother has recently been diagnosed with Cholangio carcenoma - bile duct cancer. The surgeons have decided not to operate as the cancer has spread to secondary organs such as her lymph nodes in the pancreas, the lungs and on her main vein. She has had a stent placed in the bile duct and it didn't work, so the surgeons wanted to place another stent in there today, however mum was ill last night with a temperature and this morning vomitted bile. She has also had a tube which draws out bile into an external bag which has removed the high level of billirubin and has allowed her to change back to a normal colour. My questions are centred around options for her.
What are her chemotherapy/radiation therapy options?
Will they be effective have you heard of anyone else who has had this cancer and survived through chemo or radiation therapy?
What is the realistic life expectancy when diagnosed?
Any other advice would be most welcome.
Thanks
