Q: Choking feeling in throat

I'm going crazy! I do have mono, (diagnosed 1.5 months ago) my ears have ached for 4 months straight, and a CT scan only revealed a few lymph nodes that are just a little enlarged. My neck/throat feels like I'm being choked all the time, and it is hard to swallow my own saliva. It is easier when I drink or eat. But the constat feeling that hands are choking my entire neck/throat is horrible. Anyone ever had this????

You're not alone
I was first diagnosed with the dreaded infection MONO back in 07, i had 3 different flare ups, with the last one not being the typical sore throat but instead involving my throat to swell to almost twice its normal size. I am a female, but looked as though i actually had a protruding adam's apple like an adult male would. after a few months the symptoms began to dissipate, but last may (in 2008), i start developing trouble breathing and this horrible sensation that i was being choked all the time. the choking symptoms now come and go but are still horrible to deal with. I'll wear a low cut shirt, but still claw at my neck constantly thinking its riding up and choking me, even though it's obviously not. I had gone to an allergist (more so for the breathing difficulties) who sent me to an ENT and a pulmonary doctor. All the tests came back perfectly fine, even my allergy tests, so I'm still at a loss as to where this tightness is coming from. My mom suspected it might be from me having mono, but i've never heard of this happening to anyone before, so I'm at a loss.

Also, with your throat as sensitive as it is, if you touch it further down, like a little above that indented dip where your neck meets your clavicals, if you touch around that area do you start physically gagging? for me its like sticking my finger down my throat, only this is an external cause.

sigh, this needs to go away. =(
