Is it possible for my sexual partner to have acquired chlamydia three years ago without passing it on to me even though we always have unprotected sex?.....I recently tested negative.

Doubtful. If your partner is positive and you are negative then your partner got the STD from someone else who is infected. You need to use a condom so you don't contract the STD until is is treated.
