Q: Chlamydia and hormonal imbalances
asked by: DoctorQuestion on February 19th, 2009
Looking for some help. I used to have really regular periods, like clockwork. About a year and a half ago I started spotting regularly and sometimes heavily during the month, after sex etc.... I went to the docs and they did the full std mot on me and it came back as normal apart from having chlymidia which my partner and I were treated for there and then. The doctor said this would be why I was bleeding irregularly. (They had previously thought it was the contraceptive pill I had been taking so I stopped taking it and used only condoms). I am still bleeding however and want to know why. One thing which had occurred was that I have a 'fruit latex allergy' so i am allergic to avocado, banana, mango etc and I wondered if this might be the cause?

Thanks for your help

Current medical status: Spotting and hevier bleeding between periods. Have not been on contracptive pill for about a year now to see if it would help. I had Chlymidia and had that treated but still bleeding
Current medical treatment: none

You did not mention that you had your hormones checked after stopping the oral contraceptive pills. Assuming that both you and your partner were checked again for Chlamydia after the recommended treatment (Chlamydia infection can be very hard to cure), you might be experiencing a hormonal imbalance. It does not have to be related to the oral contraceptive pills. Endometriosis and endometrial hyperplasia are also possible causes for your condition that would need more tests to be confirmed or ruled out.
