Q: Chiro vs Splints

Hi everyone~

I've only been diagnosed with TMJ dysfunction recently. It started after I had an impacted wisdom tooth removed. After having been to some GPs, ENTs, rehab med doctors and physical therapists, I'm currently seeing a chiropractor. Been going for a month and there has been reduction in my jaw muscles' soreness and my neck muscles' tension. However, there are still episodes of pain, clicking and/or locking. A TMJ specialist I went to said that I needed a splint, then braces then retainers to permanently fix my TMJ problem. She based this on a visual inspection of my teeth and some xrays. An orthodontist asked by a friend of mine said that anything chiro does is only temporary and that a splint is needed to permanently correct my problem. She hasn't seen me personally though. My chiro said I don't need a splint. I'm okay with sticking with my chiro coz I have experienced relief. I'm concerned though if such relief is "temporary" as the dentists say and if I'm wasting my resources (my chiro's expensive for my budget) on this when I should be getting a "permanent fix". Do I really need to get splints to correct my TMJ dysfunction "permanently"? Will splints help me open my mouth wide and not angled? Or should I get more opinions from other TMJ specialists? Thank you so much!
