Q: Chipmunk Nip..Not Bite

Hi..I feel a bit silly coming in here for a nip on the heel but that's exactly what happened to me just an hour ago. I was reading my book in the yard and stopped to give a couple of chipmunks that frequent our yard, some peanuts. While I was reading one snuck up and nipped my heel a bit, no blood and no sign of puncture..just felt like a quick nip as I've mentioned. Now of course, I'm wondering if a nip is something to be concerned about? I've washed my heel and put poly sporin on it, but I don't know whether a doctor visit is in order or not, it's also the weekend and I'd feel dumb going to emerg. for something you can't even see with the exception of a small bump with a bit of redness. Any suggestions or feelings on this? Thanks in advance.

I was bit on the hand pretty severely by a baby squirrel. It hurt for a couple weeks and of course I was worried about rabies. They say that squirrels and chipmunks rarely have rabies. Unless you notice it acting strange I wouldn't worry about it. but if you are I would go to a dr. There are no symptoms of rabies until it is too late to take care of it and it will certainly lead to death by then. I was bit about 3 months ago and still haven't died. I wouldn't worry about it.

I wouldn't worry either. Especially since there wasn't a puncture mark.

I haven't bothered with it actually. I was told that unless it was a bite the punctured the skin, it will be fine. I just watch my feet when I'm in the yard now, the chipmunks seem to think toes are peanuts ..lol. Thank you for your reply's.

i owned a munk for 6 years and often got tore up when hed get loose he was grown when i got him disabled and really could not fully hand train him but he was lovely . if you nsee them often then rabies is unlikely as it kills them pretty quickly. i also have a squirrel who is 9 and she bit alot when she was young now shes like a kitten loves to be petted. so hope this helps i know its really late but still if it happens again God forbid lol

Thank you bamagirl1, to date I still haven't had any trouble that I'm aware of. Aren't you nice looking after animals that way. I appreciate your response late or not and I haven't fed the chipmunks in awhile..but they are still around. I think they have gone where there is better food or at least more of it...lol.
