My daughter recently went through a traumatizing situation on Thanksgiving. Her father used much too much alcohol and had a terrible meltdown. He was verbally and physically abusive to myself, not my daughter. She is 9 years old. Up until this one time, nothing like this has ever happended. Although, her father has not used alcohol since this incident, and has repeatedly repented and apologized, she is always exhibiting anxiety such as crying spells, sadness and the fear that it could happen to anyone at any time. I have tried to explain the link to alcohol, but she does not have a full comprehension of the relationship. Prior to this, she was always happy and very seldom anxious about anything. I don't know if I should give it more time or have her talk to a child psychologist. She has not had any decline in school, and she still wants to be around her friends. I have listened to her and held her and tried to reassure her. I just don't know if any of this is helping. Any suggestions are welcomed.
