my 15 year old son has always had a problem with putting things in his mouth and chewing them to bits. He also has an explosive temper where he becomes quite violent especially with me his mother. He doesn't like me to tell him to do things or interrupt him.He is also violent with his older brother.

It sounds like Pika. Pika is a disorder that makes your brain crave strange earthy tastes. People with Pika often feel the urge to eat paper or dirt or sand, or lick paint and walls and glass, or eat wood, like in pencils. He should see a neurologist.
