My name is Jerry and im an 18 year old male. After Smoking cigerettes and marijuana from age 12 to 15 i started having chest pains and shortness of breath. I'm not even sure if this has anythiing to do with it just including it in case. I eventually had what the doctors told me was a panic/anxiety attack and ended up in the hospital one day after smoking marijuana. It was unlike anything that i had ever experienced before in that part of my life. I have never been more scared. My heart was beating 180 times a minute in the hospital i couldn't catch my breath or even talk because I felt as though i couldn't breathe. The doctors thought i had done coccaine at first. They actually couldn't give me any other answer than it was a panic attack. After that hospital event I could no longer do anything. I couldn't cacth my breath, run for more than 3 minutes at a time, i started gaining weight rapidly, more than i'd ever gained my entire life actually. I also started having chest pains. I could feel my heart beating in my throat and I would get cold sweats and shiver in 90 degree heat. I felt like an entirely new person. I was confused as how this could happen. So i went back to the doctors. My doctor since i was 4 years old to present told me that it was all mental from the hospital event. He reassured me that my heart was fine and that i was getting enough oxygen. So why was i still feeling as though i couldn't breathe or even do day to day activities. I just eventually got use to having a mild panic attaqck or two a week and just got use to the shortness of breath and the heart palpitations as i call the beating rapidly in my chest sensation. just want some serious advice on this from people who know what they're talking about. Please someone it's been 3 years for me now .

I totally agree with your doctor, that you are suffering from panic disorder.
Panic attacks are sudden events of fear, accompanied with rapid heart beat, difficult breathing, chest tightness, sensation of choking, sweating, feeling like fainting, chills or hot flashes,
shaking, nausea, fear that you are about to die.
First time marijuana smoking is a common panic attack trigger.

Ask your doctor for cognitive behavioral therapy!

Anxiety/ Panic attacks/ trouble breathing/shaking/ chest pain...
The first thing you should always tell yourself is 'i am going to be ok, i have already gone through a panic attack--its not going to kill me". Just repeat that over to yourself...I know they are very debilitating, and can turn your life around in an instance. Thats what happened to me, I smoked some marijuana with 2 friends, and BAM! i felt like death was opening its doors to me. Its the worst experience in the world. (mind you, i smoked pot for 4 years prior that attack) and everything was great. But its a good sign to stop smoking, both cigarettes and weed.
Whenever you are having anxiety attack, make sure you carry some type of strong menthol candy, and suck on it, because it helps get your breathing back on track. Don't think about negative things, try to think happy thoughts (even though i know its very hard to because your mind is racing). Hold your head up high, and dont let anxiety rule your life. Get a therapist whom you can trust with sharing what is on your mind that's making life difficult for you...i.e, family, friends, death of someone close. Don't bottle up your feeling because that is a major cause of panic attacks.
Something i would recommend that you can buy over the counter at any vitamin shop is 'GABA' and try to get some fish oil, as well as Vitamin C, B Vitamins (especially B12-it has to do with your nervous system), and Magnesium. All of those add more Serotonin and GABA to your brain, which make you happy and calms your mood swings and most importantly it relieves your panic attack symptoms. Best of luck to you!
