I am a male, 42 years old, having a sharp pain in the upper left ribs, just under breast area. The pain is in one spot, does not hinder breathing or movement, and helps if I rub the spot. Do notice that heart starts beating quicker when have the pain. Feels like someone stabbing me in that spot.

Chest Pain Answer A26682
Hello,

Welcome to the ehealthforum and I am really glad to help you out.

There’s a possibility of the pain being due to intercostal myalgia (i.e. ache of the muscles present between the ribs). This can be relieved by doing some hot fomentation or applying some pain relieving ointment locally. The other possibility is of a nerve pain causing neuralgia and for the same consultation of a neurologist and getting investigations like nerve conduction velocity test are the best.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
