Iron deficiency causes chest pain
Hello. I experienced chest pain this morning and was doing an online search (because I am anemic and wondered if they were related) and came across your post/question. I know you wrote it back in May (it is now October) and I hope you got some answers. If not I wanted to let you know that Iron deficiency can cause chest pain because when you are anemic your blood isn't circulating as much oxygen to your body, including your heart. Your heart has to work harder to provide enough oxygen and the muscles surrounding it can spasm. Don't worry (I've been anemic due to heavy periods throughout my life and the chest pain is frightening, so I understand if it makes you anxious). I have read that receiving oxygen helps (of course you'd have to go to an E.R. or urgent care) and also I have been given Naproxen (Alleve) to help too. Once your iron stores get back to normal, you should be feeling better. Are you taking any supplements ? I have had to try a few (I had any allergic reaction to one, and some can be harsh on your tummy), but the best I've found is called Floradix with Iron (you can find it at a health food store). It is gentle on your stomach and has natural sources of iron. However, you have to up the dose to taking it three times a day (other than the recommended dose on the bottle, which is twice and the normal daily value) if you are iron defiocient. I wish you luck and understand your problem.Hope this info. helped !
