Q: Changing Mole

I have a mole, right above my behind that has been there for years. Recently, this mole seems to have grown. It has also become sensitive and my husband tells me that the skin around it is slightly red and swollen. Yesterday, I found a few spots of blood on my clothing where the mole would have been touching. The mole is oddly shaped. My husband told me that it has a penninsula. I took a picture, and he really described it well. One edge of the mole seems to have raised higher than the other. All of these changes seem to have occured almost over night.

I am looking into local dermatologists right now so that I can make an appointment to get it looked at. I just want to know if my worries are silly or if this is truly something to be concerned about.

You should have this mole excised as soon as possible, as the characteristics that you have described are concerning for the possibility of melanoma (ask the dermatologist to completely excise the mole when performing the biopsy, and do NOT allow them to perform only a shave biopsy).
