hi my name is Nick. I am 17 years old turning 18 next month. Im am curious about my odds of becomming a schizophrentic. I have no known family history of the dissorder, however, i read that if your mom was sick while pregnant it may cause it to happen. My mom had the chiken pox while pregnant with me and i was born healthy and fine and the doctors were not worried. im wondering if it might cause me to become schizophrentic in a few years. i have no known symptoms really that cant be explained by anxiety. for example im always worried i have sickness. i worried about brain tumors for over a year until i got an MRI and then moved onto other worries. Im am most likely i hypochondriac and i have alot of anxiety symptoms like lightheadedness and constant worry. I now am obsessing about becoming mentaly ill and it happend after i read about it aftyer seeing it on tv. i later found out about my moms chicken pox which inhanced my worry. please write back soon. thank you

dont think so
Hi there,
I was diagnosed with psychosis and have since recovered. I have recently read a few books about it to learn more. There is no real proven link schizophrenia is passed down in the family. Also I have read nothing about it being caused by a pregnant mum getting sick and passing it onto a son/daughter, and these were good academic books. I am not an expert though, where did you read/hear this? Your symptons dont sound like schizophrenia to me or at least nothing I experienced.

odds
oh yes I think I read odds are 1 in a 100 of developing a mental health problem, this includes depression. Again I am not a doctor just what I hae picked up.
