I am a gay male who stupidly had unprotected anal sex (me top) with a guy that I later found out to not have the best reputation for fidelity or safe sex. I did not ejaculate inside him. This happened over six months ago - but it is the revelation about his risky behaviors that has caused me to act. I remember getting flu like symptoms after this encounter which has doubled my fears, I am now worried that I may have been infected (if indeed he has the virus). I have gone to the clinic and am awaiting the blood test results How long do they take to get back? and given the situation (nature of the sex) how likely is it that I may have contracted something. I am very worried as i am always the safest person when it comes to sex - but one mistake may have ruined my life. I cant sleep, eat or think about anything else.

With HIV, it doesn't matter who is on top because what happens during sex it that little cuts and tears occur on the membrane of the anus in this case and on the tip of the penis. These cuts and tears become an avenue for the virus or anything else the person has to get into the bloodstream. The only way to know is mbae what you are doing. Getting a blood test. The results should be in at about a two weeks wait. The waiting can be stressful as I can remember waiting for my test results almost 16 years ago. And guess what, I am still here in the planet. I don't know which country you are in but in some countries, HIV/AIDS is no longer a death sentence. Life goes on. Yes you might be angry if you are infected but you will soon learn to forgive and let go. Takes two to tangle. It is not easy to let go but it is doable. Let's hope you did not catch anything.

Please let us know about your test results.

All the best to you
